Welcome to CEROSS
Most centers of excellence within biomedical research focus on a particular organ, disorder, or experimental technique. CEROSS (Center of Excellence for Research on Sex Steroids), founded in 2003, is unusual in that the researchers involved are united by a common interest in a group of molecules—the sex steroids (SS)—and how they influence the organism on different levels. CEROSS brings together preclinical and clinical researchers from entirely different fields of medicine, who use disparate scientific techniques and strategies but share an interest in certain scientific problems that urgently need to be solved.
The long-term aim of research within CEROSS is to improve the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of some of the major SS-related diseases and to elucidate the role of SS in conditions in which their putative effects are poorly understood.
CEROSS offers a unique environment for research regarding a wide spectrum of diseases influenced by sex steroids, including Osteoporosis, Rheumatic Diseases, The metabolic Syndrome / Cardiovascular Disease, Sex steroid-dependent Cancer and Neuropsychiatric Disease.
CEROSS research was granted 2MSEK/year for three years from the Swedish Research Council
